Eleven WWE Superstars were released from their contracts today. While a few may fall under the I-thought-they-were-released-long-ago category, others are somewhat a surprise. For example, 3 Man Band is now down to 1.5 Man Band (if you include Hornswoggle as a member) thanks to the cuts of Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal. Two kids' favorites, Brodus Clay and Yoshi Tatsu, were also future endeavored.

With an increasing number of NXT guys graduating lately, it makes sense cuts had to made somewhere to make room for them. But, is Rusev the new Brodus? Do Adam Rose and his posse make for a better band? Is Emma winning over the kiddies with her bubbles?

Besides McIntyre, Mahal, Clay and Tatsu, WWE also released JTG, Aksana, Curt Hawkins (somewhere Zack Ryder is breathing a sigh of relief), Theodore Long, Camacho, Evan Bourne and Referee Marc Harris.

Now, let the TNA rumors begin...Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-41900508282040712692014-06-02T18:34:00.000-04:002014-06-02T18:34:00.406-04:00Double Divas
Last night, I watched Payback just to see what would happen with Daniel Bryan and Bri Bella. (All the matches seemed to be the same thing we've been seeing for, well, months.) And, Bri made it all about her and quit. Now, this is WWE quit, which means she'll probably have a match against Stephanie McMahon at SummerSlam. Or, she's knocked up and had to quit. Either way, it was the one thing I wanted to see and it's the one thing that makes me want to see what's next.

Meanwhile, on "Total Divas" it was Bri and Daniel's wedding. But, that wasn't why I DVR'd the show. I wanted to see how Nikki was going to steal the show with her drama. She won the title "Worst Maid of Honor Ever," according to Bri. The only thing that would have made it better is if Natalya's spilling of Nikki's secret got to John Cena, and he felt like he wasn't even on that totem pole instead of just the bottom of it.

They are called Divas for a reason.Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-70521683479879615592014-05-26T21:32:00.000-04:002014-05-26T21:32:13.320-04:00Honoring the MilitaryWhile today is the day we honor our fallen heroes, WWE honors our military at every stop along their tour. You may have seen the announce team point out soldiers on Raw and Smackdown, but did you know they got to see the show for free?

At every live event, U.S. military personnel from the Air Force, Army, Marines, Navy, Coast Guard and National Guard can acquire free tickets. All they have to do is go to the box office the day of the event and present a military ID. Tickets are available while supplies last, so if the show is sold out, tickets will not be available. The only event that does not qualify is WrestleMania.

WWE also offers a 10 percent discount on merchandise. To learn more, visit the WWE Shop.Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-32097559357691580042014-05-08T14:09:00.000-04:002014-05-08T14:09:03.994-04:00Horror StoriesSomebody at the WWE likes their horror movies. But, which one is the best?

I'm not talking about "See No Evil" or "Occulus." I'm talking about the stories playing out in the ring.

First, in this corner, we have John Cena facing a demonic child under Bray Wyatt's influence. In the other corner, we have Kane traumatizing yet another Diva.

The kid was kinda awesome, but this story is just eh. The choir scene would have made a bigger impact if we couldn't see the kids holding the masks behind their backs as they walked to ringside. Plus, the results just seem flat. This story has its moments, but it needs, I suppose, more editing.

However, Kane's attacks are textbook, but still great, just like any good horror movie. For example, in movies the victim always runs up the stairs instead of getting out of the house. With Kane, if his music hits, and he's not coming down ramp, he's coming through the bottom of the ring. And, what did Brie do? SHE STAYS IN THE RING! Even new girl Paige knew to get out of that ring.

Then, this week, the car is brought into the building. Kane is stalking Brie and Daniel. Do they check the backseat before getting into the car? No. Who's there? Uh, Kane.

And, then, does Daniel leave Kane for dead? Why should he? Like any good horror movie victim, he goes back to check on him. What happens? Kane sits up.

This is the better story because even though we know what's going to happen, our stars do not, and we get to yell unheard directions to screen. It's classic, and that's what makes it great.Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-79273132139126493012014-04-25T12:32:00.001-04:002014-04-25T12:34:01.092-04:00Legends House teases fights, delivers funIs "Legends House" living up to your expectations?

I don't know what I was expecting these past two years I've been eagerly awaiting "Legends House." (Yes, it really has been THAT long since they filmed.) I don't think I wanted to see them act like their characters, even though those are the names they are using on the show. Maybe I've watched too much Real Housewives drama that I'm jaded.

They keep teasing that these personalities don't mix well. Tony Atlas and Hacksaw Jim Duggan argued, but that really was nothing compared to the Guidices. Roddy Piper even went for a concerning walk, but that truly was more of a healthy thing. The rest is just basic ribbing-- they are having fun with each other.

And, yes, it's nice to see these guys get along, but that doesn't make compelling television. Maybe that's why the show didn't air before now (I seem to remember it originally meant to be aired on some channel, or at least being shopped.)

The best part of the show so far was the attempt to make food or somehow find food via GPS. It was amazing that these guys apparently have never had to prepare and cook their own food. It was real. It was really them, learning each other's skills and working together to reach a goal. (Yes, Mean Gene and Pat played cards, but only after their own failed attempt. Their card playing encouraged the others to get involved.)

Perhaps that should have been the focus of the show all along-- sort of like that Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie reality show-- put these guys in normal situations for the rest of us, and let us watch as they fumble and discover each other's strengths, especially since they seem so concerned about fighting. Maybe, especially since that argument was about working with kids, they could babysit kids of various ages. Wouldn't it be fun to see Mean Gene exclaim, "Holy Balls!" after opening a diaper?Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-64836517289906033812014-04-09T09:24:00.001-04:002014-04-09T10:19:19.390-04:00Death of a Warrior

Just days after he was inducted into the Hall of Fame, WWE confirmed the Ultimate Warrior died last night. He was 54 years old.

According to TMZ, Warrior collapsed outside an Arizona hotel while walking to his car with his wife, Dana.

On Monday night, Warrior (he legally changed his name to that in 1993) may have only walked down the ramp to ring, but still shook the ropes before starting a now eerie speech:

Every man's heart one day beats its final beat. His lungs breathe their final breath. And if what that man did in his life makes the blood pulse through the body of others and makes them believe deeper in something that's larger than life, then his essence, his spirit, will be immortalized by the storytellers, by the loyalty, by the memory of those who honor him, and make the running the man did live forever.

I am happy his young daughters were able to not only see their father inducted into the Hall of Fame Saturday night, but were also able to see him cheered by the fans while sitting front row at Raw Monday night.

Warrior is a past WWF Champion and Intercontinental Champion. He made his WWF/WWE debut in 1987.
After all, the first, X and XX were at Madison Square Garden.

But, you could say, even though the biggest show in wrestling entertainment was more than 1,200 miles away, NJ and NY still stole the show.

As the show opened, we saw one of favorite "Real Housewives of New Jersey," Melissa Gorga, on display in the front row. In other diva news, Jersey Girl AJ Lee retained her title against 13 competitors.

In the biggest news of the night, New Yorker Paul Heyman saw his beast, Brock Lesnar, defeat The Undertaker.

Yes, it took a New Yorker finding an MMA-trained wrestler for Taker's streak to end.

I'm not sure if this is something we can be proud of-- in fact, this probably increases Lesnar and Heyman's heeldom, if that's possible. (And yes, I'm such a heel, that I made up that word. Go ahead, try to look it up.)

Hopefully, as Taker announces his retirement tonight, someone will come from the rafters and convince him he has one more match in him. That's when we can be proud and say if it wasn't for Heyman, well, you know the rest...Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-92062328636693642172014-04-06T13:23:00.001-04:002014-04-06T13:23:09.263-04:00WrestleMania 30: Who's There?

Every year, we wonder who will make some sort of surprise appearance at WrestleMania or the Raw after. Here's who's been spotted in New Orleans this weekend, according to various sources on the Internet:

- I think I saw every living Hall of Famer at the Hall of Fame ceremony except Edge. Plus, all the guys from "Legends House" are there promoting the show at Axxess.

- Several people have reported seeing CM Punk, usually with AJ Lee. Even Stone Cold Steve Austin has predicted that CM Punk will return at WrestleMania.

- The Rock is there. JR tweeted a photo of himself with The Rock and Stone Cold with the WrestleMania hashtag.

- Victoria/Tara was in the audience at the Hall of Fame ceremony.

Cena has almost always been involved in the main event, the title match or both at the biggest show of the year, but kudos to the WWE – which has struggled creatively in recent months – for building a side story for Cena that is worth our attention.
When the Wyatt Family first appeared on the scene, I took to referring to them as the “Red Neck Shield,” but after a few months of developing the characters and sticking with their mantra, they turned into a solid faction.
Plus, all three of those guys can flat out perform in the ring, even if you just think of the other two guys as Goat Face and Brisco Darling. Dudes can wrestle, pure and simple.
Enter Cena, who is the shining light of goodness, never to be tempted by the Dark Side of Heeldom, to stop these minions of darkness – and possibly moonshine. Wyatt rips on Cena for being the too-good-to-be-true hero figure to the children of the world, which of course he is, even though the E! Network is running promos nonstop about Cena being suspected of cheating on Nikki Bella in next week’s episode of Total Divas.
Cena is a great all-time champion, but he has such a polarizing effect on WWE crowds that you never know how he will be received. The crowd was heavily pro-Harper in a recent match where Cena faced the bearded minion of the sinister family, and even though Cena is the face in this storyline, most of the marks aren’t taking the bait.
But maybe this is a different Cena, who seems to be taking this match seriously as opposed to rapping about his opponent or bantering with The Rock about Fruity Pebbles.
So who wins? Cena is 7-3 all-time at Mania, with two of those defeats being part of the same storyline (Rock vs. Cena, three times in a lifetime). The ideal situation is a brutal match that is eventually won by Wyatt, getting the budding young star over and giving Cena something to fight for.
In a perfect world, Cena will come back on Monday’s RAW and team up with a returning star like Kurt Angle or Sting to overcome the Wyatts later on.
Either way, this match could steal the show if it’s done right.

Last year, there was no Divas Championship match at WrestleMania. In fact, the only match involving Divas, the eight-person mixed tag match of Tons of Funk vs. the Rhodes Scholars and the Bellas, was axed at the last moment due to time constraints.

(This was extremely disappointing to Divas fans especially since Trish- arguably the best Women's Champion ever, if you don't count Moolah's Hogan-esque reign- was inducted into the Hall of Fame the night before, and the match involved one of her old partners, Albert.)

This year, perhaps as an olive branch of sorts, just about every Diva (I say "just about" because I know if I say "all," someone will point out that there is a Diva not in the match) will participate in the Vickie Guerrero Divas Championship Invitational match.

This is a one-fall match, meaning AJ could lose the title without being pinned.
While the best story may come out of Tamina winning- and it would be nice to see her win, since technically her dad was a winner at the first WrestleMania- it seems too obvious. Yes, the obvious seems to be happening lately, but for some reason, I don't think the WWE wants to take the "Total Divas" out of the equation.

That brings me to Natalya winning. There has been a lot of talk about her inability to win the title again on the show, plus, she had to suffer that loss to Summer Rae Monday night. Perhaps Summer was given that opportunity because the plans are for Natalya to win the bigger prize Sunday night.

The sleeper pick is Emma. Yes, Emma. She seems to be full of surprises, and her being in the right place at the right time could be the biggest surprise of her career. Sure, she couldn't beat Paige for the NXT Women's Championship, but then again, she is on the main roster and Paige is not.

Oh, and if AJ somehow wins, I wouldn't be surprised if they redo this match on Raw- possibly without the title on the line- with someone else winning.Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-71018292704844752362014-04-02T21:22:00.003-04:002014-04-02T21:22:52.268-04:00WrestleMania 30: The PaycheckHulk Hogan recalled his match with Andre the Giant at WrestleMania III as his inspiration for the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania. But, as you may know from watching WWE Network at the very least, Andre was in the first ever WrestleMania winning the Body Slam Challenge against Big John Studd.

This would be a great honor for the first inductee to the Hall of Fame, if this wasn't an over promotion of the typical let's-give-these-guys-a-paycheck-and-throw-them-in-a-battle-royal match held during many WrestleManias. The only difference is this year, there's a trophy.

Yes, this is the consolation match for all the guys in the locker room who didn't make their way to a compelling or semi-compelling story worthy of WrestleMania by now, but did work hard all year to be at WrestleMania.

Since this is also the 30th Anniversary, I wouldn't be surprised if a few guys from the first WrestleMania, like Rowdy Roddy Piper, Cowboy Bob Orton, Ricky the Dragon Steamboat, the Iron Sheik, Jimmy Snuka or even Mr. T find their way into the match. Having one of the guys from "Legends House" (which premieres April 10), like Piper, could help with cross-promotion.

I would like to see Big Show win, since the big guy never wins Battle Royals and this one is named after the wrestler with the same condition he has. Big Show was even once upon a time Andre's son in a story. Another guy with "big" in his name may be more likely- Big E Langston seems to be getting a push lately, and I'm pretty sure that was new entrance music I heard for him...Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-58446643429524775282014-04-01T13:19:00.000-04:002014-04-01T13:20:27.797-04:00WrestleMania 30: Tag TimeThis year, the Tag Team Title match will be the pre-show for WrestleMania. While I don't like title matches being the pre-show for any PPV, there is one other thing I don't like about this match.

I wish Cody Rhodes and Goldust were in this match instead of the Real Americans. This match had the opportunity to have each team with multi-generational wrestlers, including one team with a family member going into the Hall of Fame. This could have have been a special match for the 30th WrestleMania, considering the history of the families.

But no, The Real Americans, who, in my opinion, have gotten stale lately, were placed in this match.

I see the Colons, I mean, Los Matadores, winning the titles, if the Usos don't retain. I know, I know, but I have good reasons. Los Matadores will see Carlos Colon (Primo's dad, Epico's uncle) go into the Hall of Fame the night before. Now, sometimes, when something special like this happens, they get screwed in some other way, which goes with Usos retaining. I see the Usos retaining as part of the Total Divas promotion.

Of course, the reason The Real Americans got into this title match is thanks to Kane, who found his way into another match. He, along with the New Age Outlaws, will face The Shield at WrestleMania.

This match I don't understand. It basically gives Kane, Billy Gunn and Road Dogg a paycheck. I do not see how this benefits The Shield at all. The Shield's story line was progressing toward a split. I only see this bringing them closer together. It also kinda gives them a face turn, which, while we do like them, they aren't exactly faces.

I suppose The Shield will win simply because The New Outlaws need to go back to their backstage jobs at some point. Right?Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-29722988341649833272014-03-31T20:20:00.003-04:002014-03-31T20:20:49.264-04:00WrestleMania 30: The Absent PlayerLast year, the Undertaker's match at WrestleMania was different from all his past matches. Leading in, many believed CM Punk would be the one to break the streak. Then, a month before show, Paul Bearer died. The story behind the match became Paul Bearer, and speculation shifted to Taker winning for Paul.

While it is a much different situation this year, there is still a player involved who is not present. Paul Heyman has Brock Lesnar facing Taker as part retaliation for CM Punk.

According to Heyman's "pipe bomb" at the beginning of March, things changed for Punk after his WrestleMania loss to Taker. That was when things started going downhill for straight edge Superstar. That was a factor in his departure.

And, while Heyman is confident Lesnar is the one to break the streak, I am not so sure. Lesnar couldn't even defeat Triple H in a No Holds Barred match last year, and McMahons often lose big matches to favor the talent.

Another factor is Paul Bearer. He will be inducted into the Hall of Fame the night before WrestleMania, and, this year, we can watch the event live on the WWE Network. It will have to be an emotional night, and he will most certainly be on everyone's mind, even if the announce team doesn't mention his name during the match.

All of that, and there's no way the streak will ever break. Taker could be 99 years old wrestling Max Stratus at WrestleMania 80, and he will still somehow keep the streak alive.

I believe that at the end of the day on April 6, Taker will be 22-0 at WrestleMania.Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-47827833128987453342014-03-30T20:28:00.004-04:002014-03-30T20:28:38.934-04:00WrestleMania 30: The TitleLike many, I was incredibly disinterested in the WWE Heavyweight Championship match about a month ago.

I saw this match being overshadowed by other matches. Randy Orton can put on a show, but the fans haven't exactly been interested in him this year, and that may have affected his performance. Then, Orton wasn't given any favors with Batista as his opponent. Batista didn't exactly deserve the title shot, like so many guys in the locker room who will now get their WrestleMania paycheck from the Battle Royal match.

Now, one of those guys, the guy the fans wanted, could be added to what is now a Triple Threat match.

As an obvious response to the fans' plans to "Hijack Raw" each week since CM Punk left, WWE ingeniously had Daniel Bryan's character gather fans to "Occupy Raw." They basically kowtowed to the fans both in story line and real life. They not only went along with the rumored plan (at least since Punk left) that Bryan would face Triple H, but added what the fans wanted by adding Bryan to the title match if he beat Triple H. But, if Triple H wins, he gets to battle his former Evolution buddies in a Triple Threat match.

Do I like this? Does this make me happy?

Not exactly. I'm not sure if making this a Triple Threat match makes the match any better. Sure, the fan interaction will be better, but that's not all that makes a match. And, with the Triple H/Bryan match, yes, we are assuming Bryan wins. Doesn't he have to? And, what if he doesn't? Will the fans really get what they wanted in the end? Will the WWE simply take this opportunity to show the fans what they want isn't always best for business?

Maybe Orton v. Batista would have been a spectacular match. Maybe throwing Bryan in the mix will throw off some of the chemistry these guys have from working together in the past. Maybe putting Triple H in it will create a new story line branching off from the Evolution days (remember, Orton was Batista-bombed out of Evolution when Triple H gave Batista the signal to do so.)

I also can't help but wonder if Bryan's real life wedding to Brie Bella shortly after WrestleMania (April 11, if I remember correctly) will affect the outcome. Sure, The Usos both got married (one to Funkadactyl Trinity, in fact) and not only didn't take time off, but won the Tag Team titles. That doesn't mean Bryan would want the extra responsibility of being champ putting pressure on his wedding and new marriage.
While they did the expected with the Royal Rumble and pissed off the fans, and the entire arena chanting, "yes" at WrestleMania could be epic, I'm sticking with my orginal prediction from the Royal Rumble. I think the fans will get their "yes" moment at the end of the Bryan v. Triple H match, but that Batista will be holding the belt at the end of the night. Cowboy Bob Orton could even get involved in the result, as he did 30 years ago...Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-84762040667399217992014-03-04T12:52:00.000-05:002014-03-04T12:52:10.042-05:00Story Teller"I came here tonight to tell the story of a Paul Heyman guy."

Raw was in Chicago, CM Punk's hometown. It opened with "Cult of Personality" and Punk's entrance video. After enough time for the fans to celebratory cheer (and for me to say "holy sh*t," then call someone to make they were watching), Paul Heyman walked out on stage and proceeded down the ramp.

This was it. WWE was finally addressing the CM Punk departure.

Heyman sat cross-legged in the ring, and informed the fans this was his "pipe bomb." As only he can, Heyman wove his tale, blaming the fans and, finally, the Undertaker for Punk's departure. This, of course, set up up Brock Lesnar's match against Taker at WrestleMania.

Will this stop desires for Punk to return? Were the fans really cheering for Lesnar at the end of that segment when they once again chanted, "CM Punk?" Yes, the CM Punk chants continued throughout the night, but once again, this was in Chicago and there were those rumors that he would return...

The important part is Heyman beautifully constructed a story around Punk's sudden and previously unexplained departure. He made Punk a part of the story for WrestleMania without Punk having to show up.Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-61964281989567532662014-02-28T13:08:00.000-05:002014-02-28T13:12:06.291-05:00Dead on ArrivalMost people who tuned into the WWE Network's first live in-ring event seem to agree the "kids" who performed on "NXT ArRival" did an excellent job. Unfortunately, most of us also didn't get to see everyone's performance.

The feed froze, then jumped to the home screen during Tyler Breeze's entrance. When we tried to get back to the live program, a flurry of issues occurred, from it starting over to it going live for a few seconds before jumping back to Breeze's entrance and freezing again. Eventually, I, at least, gave up on the program for the night.

At one point, WWE recommended on social media that anyone experiencing problems with the feed should "log out, uninstall the WWE app, reboot the (device), then reinstall the app again." The problem is, by the time a person goes through all these steps, quite a bit of a live program has been missed. Yes, we could rewind and watch what was missed, but that misses the point of watching it live.

Could you imagine having to troubleshoot in this manner during WrestleMania in April? What if the feed goes out during Undertaker's entrance and we end up missing what could possibly be his last match?

That is why I, for one, am not confident in the WWE's ability to deliver WrestleMania on this platform at the moment. ArRival was the test for me. It was a 2-hour program which probably didn't draw as many viewers as a typical PPV would. WrestleMania is twice as long and draws the most viewers. I know this is new and glitches should be expected, but WrestleMania is too big of an event for glitches to be a concern.

In fact, WWE Network issued this statement to subscribers early Friday morning:

During tonight's live "NXT ArRival" special, we unfortunately experienced technical difficulties, which are to expected when launching a new digital network. We will work aggressively to solve these glitches and deliver quality service. The complete event will be available on-demand overnight.

Unfortunately, "work aggressively" is also being used as the answer to Xbox users' inability to even log in to app. Yes, that's on Microsoft's head, but, at last check, they haven't seen results since the WWE Network launched on Monday.

If the situation was the other way around, with the performances failing and the feed being excellent, I would have been happier. I would have felt good about watching WrestleMania on this new format. I probably would have even understood why we keep getting the recycled Superstars in main events instead of seeing the younger talent get a chance.

This network is on the cutting edge of broadcasting sporting events, and it would be great to see it work and how it impacts more mainstream sports. Unfortunately, if the glitches continue, I fear it could end up like the XFL.Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-49844611219727648342014-02-26T10:38:00.001-05:002014-02-26T10:54:46.200-05:00Technical IssuesHulkamania was running wild on the "Today Show" this morning to promote WrestleMania 30 on the WWE Network. Unfortunately, the WWE Network is driving many wild in the wrong way.

First of all, one reason businesses like WWE offer a free trial for the first week is because, while they hope everything runs smoothly, they anticipate problems. Whenever any business has a huge launch, whether it's Target or the government, the number of people trying to access it overwhelms the system in some way, shape or form, and people are unhappy. So, if a trial is possible, it's the smart move for a business to take.

The trial period is also the chance for customers to test out the product and see if it is worth their money. On paper, the WWE Network is a great deal even if all you want is to watch WrestleMania and Summer Slam. But, if the quality isn't good, it won't be worth the hassle.

And, right now, on the start of the third day, it is still a hassle for many. It appears those with XBox 360 still can't even log in. Others, like me, can't watch an old PPV without it freezing after a few minutes then going back to the menu screen.

(Image source unknown-circulating on social media)

(On a positive note, the first live broadcast, the Raw Pre-Show, worked without issues. I'm still waiting to see what NXT ArRival looks like on Thursday night.)

Yesterday, WWE issued a statement via social media that issues would be resolved by 6 p.m. When the issues were not resolved, fans made sure to come back and post their unhappiness. This morning, another statement was issued that they were "working aggressively to fix log-in issues."

The log-in issues are definitely the biggest issues the network is facing. Yes, many of these people have reported being able to log-in on their computer, but who wants to watch a sporting event, even a scripted one, on a computer monitor when you could be watching it on a big flat-screen TV?

In time for my issue, the fad of having access to all this programming will die, and all I will really care about are the first-run programs, like ArRival, Legends House (which premieres in April, for those of you complaining about that being "missing") and the current PPV. I don't exactly have the time to watch every single PPV ever made, anyway. Oh, and it's not like don't have a bunch of those matches already available on various WWE DVDs.

So, as of now, patience is the key. And, on another positive note, could you imagine if this network was launched April 5? So, if you really think about it, WWE gave themselves more than a month to get things in order before their biggest draw to network, as proven by today's morning show appearance, goes live.Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-54166563683136244112014-02-20T14:28:00.001-05:002014-02-20T14:42:02.000-05:00EliminatedIf you have Dish as your television provider, you'll have to find another way to watch the Elimination Chamber PPV on Sunday. In true pro wrestling fashion, Dish took its ball and went home over its displeasure with the WWE Network debuting Monday.

In a response to a customer complaint on Facebook last night, Dish said, "We need to re-focus our efforts to support partners that better serve DISH customers. Other satellite and cable companies, including DIRECTV, have also expressed they may no longer provide WWE PPV events in the future."

But, as reported in Variety, Dish said, "As WWE enters the increasingly fragmented media world by themselves, Dish will continue to consider the value of WWE pay-per-view on an event by event basis."

I suppose that means if the backlash is bad enough, especially with WrestleMania coming up next, Dish could change its mind to keep customers. After WWE announced Dish's decision on Facebook yesterday, many fans with Dish threatened to switch to another provider, like DirecTV.

While some think it isn't a big deal since the WWE Network will provide all PPVs, the network does not launch until after this PPV, and this PPV will not be available to watch immediately on the network. That means anyone with Dish will either need to find another way to watch the Elimination Chamber or cut their losses.

To help, WWE provided on their Facebook page all the alternatives Dish customers have to watch the Elimination Chamber: www.wwe.com/shows/howtowatch

In New Jersey, Buffalo Wild Wings locations are showing the Elimination Chamber, according to WWE.com. The site also lists the Fox & Hound in Edison, Hooters in Wayne, Pub 46 in Clifton, and the Tilted Kilt in Wayne as places to watch the PPV. I could talk about how lovingly Stephanie always looks at Triple H whenever he's talking on camera, but there's not much more to that. I could tell you about the new WWE video blog series starring newlyweds Cody and Brandi Rhodes, but you can just watch it here.

No, and I'm not even going to give you a DX-type promo for the new HBK DVD.

I'm going to talk about the latest wrestling break-up. And, of course, the only way to settle their differences was in the ring.

Sometimes, it's kinda frowned upon to throw a woman in a match against a man. Considering it's all staged and the women train with the men anyway, I have no problem with it, especially if the woman shows she can hold her own against the man. It can show girls watching to stand up for themselves and show boys not to underestimate girls.

Chris Sabin isn't exactly the biggest guy (or the smartest) on the roster, so it was credible that Velvet could take him. She showed bravery and intelligence, until the unexpected happened.

See, usually in these matches, a man comes out to help the woman. The woman somehow becomes a damsel who needs to be saved, and sometimes even looks like a slut by some implied relationship with the second man.

But, in this match, it was Sabin who was saved by another woman. A new Knockout (Alpha Female, according to Diva Dirt-- yeah, I did some research) who looked like the female version of Nuclear Man from "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace." You know, the "I will hurt people" guy. In fact, you know how that Nuclear Man had Superman's DNA? It almost looked like this newbie was made from Velvet's and maybe Chyna's DNA.

I'm assuming Alpha will be more of the body guard type rather than girlfriend type, at least at first, considering she carried Sabin out on her shoulders. Yeah. That's where the Chyna part comes in.

This certainly wasn't the best break-up in wrestling history, but it is a great fantasy example of how to break up the day before Valentine's Day. She got to hit him in the balls twice, while he was able to get his revenge without being the one to hit her, and neither have to worry about getting a gift during a snowstorm.Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-68062835083061095422014-02-05T13:36:00.000-05:002014-02-05T13:36:31.744-05:00The Rumor MillTwo big rumors have been circulating lately and, for now, that's simply all they are- rumors.

It's true the rumor that MVP was the investor came true in TNA, but, let's face it- he wasn't the only one rumored for the role.

The first one is that The Rock will play Green Lantern in either the Superman/Batman movie or the Justice League movie or both. Yes, The Rock did tweet that he talked to WB execs about a role in a DC film a while back, but no role was mentioned.

We just had a big meeting w/ Warner Bros CEO re: @DCComics 2014 we will partner up and create the cool bad assery. #RockTalk @ActionTilson
— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) December 31, 2013

Green Lantern John Stewart is a Marine and probably the most mainstream black superhero. I'm not sure if his charisma would be able to come through in this role, so this rumor isn't a lock for me, but it's not like other casting decisions for this movie have made much sense to the geeks at this point. I also cannot think of a DC superhero or villain The Rock has GOT to be to counter the Green Lantern rumors.

The other big rumor involves Stacy Keibler. Either she's coming back or going into the Hall of Fame. All of this started after she was seen talking to Stephanie McMahon at an event. When asked by a follower, McMahon admitted to seeing Keibler.

“@OfficialMLF: @StephMcMahon Did you get to hang out with @StacyKeibler too at #VH1Blitz 😃” yes!
For all we know, they could have been talking about their mutual love of TLC, the Affordable Care Act or how good of a kisser is George Clooney. But, of course, the two rumors were started.

It would be great to see Keibler back, but we have so many young, talented Divas just getting attention right now, that it may be a disservice to them. Hall of Fame could be possible, but there are already two big ticket-selling names going in that I'm not sure if she would be a choice for this year. Also, while I certainly like her and think she probably is a future Hall of Famer, there are other women who did more for the wrestling business who more deserving at this point.Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-58250540064348299042014-01-29T11:49:00.000-05:002014-01-29T12:00:34.726-05:00Punked

Thanks for all the support.
There appears to be a reason that the Royal Rumble match Sunday night was the last time we saw CM Punk. His last tweet, posted Monday, certainly implies that he left the WWE, and reports are flying over the internet that he quit.

CM Punk is still listed as a Superstar on WWE.com, but he has been removed from advertising for live events. He is still listed on the WrestleMania Axxess VIP Signing Schedule, for now.

While his historic "pipebomb" in July 2011 was scripted, this may not be simply part of a story. In fact, it seems to be similar to Stone Cold Steve Austin's walkout on the company after WrestleMania in 2002.

In an interview posted on MMAFighting.com on Jan. 24, Punk did say his contract was up in July, and no one had been talking to him about it.

"I don't know," CM Punk said when asked if he would renew his contract. "Everything is up in the air."

While you may be thinking once contract issues are ironed out, Dixie Carter would be a fool not to go after CM Punk for TNA Wrestling, he does have an interest in MMA, and could always make that his next career move.Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-85230672503815358282014-01-28T12:12:00.000-05:002014-01-28T12:32:17.133-05:00Royal MessProfessional wrestling is scripted. It is a soap opera of sorts. It can be predictable. But, no matter how much we read online about who's in town, what makes sense and what rumor is being spread, we still crave the surprise outcome.

At the Royal Rumble Sunday night, the widely expected happened. Batista won. It was logical considering he just made his return and has something to promote. Just because we all knew this was the most likely outcome (unless, of course, John Cena found his ways into this match), it doesn't mean we wanted it to happen.

We wanted Daniel Bryan. He is on top right now, and he should be in the main event of WrestleMania. But, just because he is our favorite does not mean he will win that ticket, as has been proven in past Royal Rumble matches. However, many were disappointed he didn't even get the chance to be in the Royal Rumble. We may have been temporarily appeased last night with Bryan's inclusion in the Elimination Chamber, but that is also a match where anything can happen and it's easy for minds to be changed last minute.

(Other crowd-pleasers thrown at us on Raw were the announcements that Jake the Snake Roberts is going into the Hall of Fame and that Christian is returning on Smackdown.)

When 30 came and passed, hope shifted to Roman Reigns, who has been proving himself lately as the standout from the Shield. He broke the record for most eliminations, but that apparently was the only bone he was going to be thrown. He would have certainly would have breathed new life into the main event of WrestleMania, since I think he is most likely to succeed.

Now, everyone will wait to see if Bryan can win the Elimination Chamber match. WWE's writers and executives certainly have some questions to ask themselves- Will Bryan not going to WrestleMania's main event affect WWE Network sales? How will Bryan v. Batista affect Batista's ability to promote his summer non-mainstream superhero movie? If they do Bryan v. Batista, can they turn Batista into a face before summer so the fans will back his movie? Will they just chicken out and give us yet another triple threat match at WrestleMania? Do they believe enough fans will care enough to make difference in WWE's profits?

Truthfully, I don't think I'd complain about a Batista v. Orton match. It can be a great story, and it could be a great match.

By the way, remember this?

That being said, WrestleMania is the finale of the year and the start of the new year for our "stories." Guys like Bryan and Reigns who have won us over so much that chants for them are amazing and are truly the future of the company should be featured. The backlash from last year's WrestleMania created a big night for Dolph Ziggler on the following Raw. Will WWE continue the trend and wait to please the fans on Raw, or will they make sure getting PPVs- even at $10 a month- is worth it?Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-83285724706114765072014-01-22T15:47:00.001-05:002014-01-22T15:59:10.184-05:00Destroying the Competition?Like everyone else competing in the Royal Rumble match Sunday, Batista wants to be in the main event at WrestleMania. As we and Randy Orton are well aware, there are 29 other men with the same goal. So, will Batista destroy the competition to get that golden ticket?

Possibly.

He has this movie coming out in August. It makes sense to help him promote this movie, Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy," as well as WWE, by being the champion. April to August is a short enough time in WWE land for Batista to win the championship at WrestleMania and still hold the title while making publicity tours for Guardians.

It's "best for business" after all.

The big question is which of his cast mates will be the first to make a guest appearance on Raw--Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt or Bradley Cooper?Red Maskhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02391945874061173108noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234084107596723164.post-53793991724830759922014-01-15T09:04:00.000-05:002014-01-15T09:04:51.058-05:00Wrestling's First Lady DiesWWE confirmed late Tuesday night that Hall of Famer Mae Young has died. She was 90 years old.

She reportedly survived a week off life support in her Columbia, SC, home. Young was erroneously reported dead a week ago by a South Carolina newspaper which got incorrect information from a source.

Born Johnnie Mae Young in Oklahoma on March 12, 1923, she started her professional wrestling career in 1939. She eventually went on to train others for the business, including long-time friend Lillian Ellison, more commonly known as Hall of Famer Fabulous Moolah.

In a statement, Vince McMahon said, "There will never be another Mae Young. Her longevity in sports entertainment may never be matched, and I will forever be grateful for all of her contributions to the industry. On behalf of WWE, I extend our sincerest condolences to her family and friends."

Many tweeted their condolences and memories as they heard the news from WWE last night:
The first inductee should have been easy to figure out, considering his inclusion in the WWE 2K14 game, but I still felt like a little kid watching the Ultimate Warrior's entrance when the announcement was made last night.

If you were not privileged to know the Ultimate Warrior character, WWE's press release on the announcement gives a perfect description:

When the distinctive ring entrance music of Warrior hit, he would burst out of the dressing room and sprint towards the ring, causing a frenzy of excitement amongst WWE fans.

But, who else could join him?

Jake the Snake Roberts made an impact when he returned for Old School Raw last week, and he is now a downloadable character in the 2K14 game. The timing seems right for him, and he is certainly Hall of Fame material.

Diamond Dallas Page could be considered for Sainthood for what he has done in recent years for Roberts and Scott Hall. But, Hall of Fame recognition is probably more realistic.

Cyndi Lauper is the only significant celebrity I can think of from WWE past who has not been inducted into the celebrity wing yet. In fact, I think she, with Hall of Famer Captain Lou Albano, started the connection of celebrities and wrestling with their feud on Piper's Pit. She went on to escort Hall of Famer Wendi Richter to the ring at the first WrestleMania and even had Albano play her father in the "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" video.

Many of us would love for the late Macho Man Randy Savage to enter the Hall of Fame, but I think he is still on the not likely list. There are allegedly personal issues involved, as well as Randy's wish for the Poffo family to all go in as one. Genius/Leaping Lanny Poffo, Randy's brother, said last year that the WWE could induct Macho Man, but that he wanted nothing to do with it.

Who do you think will join the Ultimate Warrior in the Hall of Fame this year?
